Latest News - 2nd August

We do need a few more players to strengthen the squad in preparation for the 15 a side game which starts at u14 level.

There are a few roles we would like parents to help with and take some of the workload off the coaches.

Assistant coaches
If there are any parents who would like to help with the coaching please contact Paul. We will arrange courses you can attend and develop your coaching skills.

Match reporters
We are looking for a parent or parents to help with writing match reports for the website and the local newspaper. Its not a time consuming task or requires knowledge of rugby. We just like to record the match results, the team sheet and who scored the tries plus the man of the match. The players do like to see their names in the paper and on the website.

Team manager
We require a team manager to help with the admin duties for the squad. This involves welcoming new players, update the membership database, ensure they become RFU registered and have a valid ID card and check on players availability for fixtures.

Review of 2015 - 16 Season - The Under 12's

The under 12's had a slow start to the season winning just two games in October. The district festival produced just one win against the Bees and December was mainly a washout with the weather. However a steady influx of new players was producing some hope for the second half of the season. Although not much rugby was played in January due to the floods the squad found some spaces to train and the new players were looking good. The last three months February - April saw a massive improvement with only one defeat and finishing the season on a high. The steady stream of new players has seen the squad grow to 19 players which allowed the coaches to run competitive training sessions during the bad weather and improve player development. The squad should be able to build on this success next season providing they do not lose any players.

Under 11's playing record
P 21, Won 11, Lost 9, D 1, F 122, A 95
Leading try scorer was Jack Billington 27 tries, followed by Joe Wild 22 tries and Jake Parkinson 20 tries

The Under 11's Awards
Alex Gow won the most improved player award.
Callum Sutcliffe won the coaches award.
Jake Parkinson and Jack Billington shared the player of the year trophy.

Season 2016-17 - The under 12s

The new rules of play for the under 12s is introduced this season. The changes are mostly in the forwards with the rules allowing unlimited players competing for the ball at the ruck and maul. An additional 3 players are introduced to make it 12 a side and a second row is added to the scrum. Contested strike for the ball is now allowed in the scrum. A full back is also added giving sides a full set of backs to develop and use a larger pitch increased to half a full size pitch.

This season players move schools and find new friends. Most secondary schools play rugby (either league or union) and this may well see more players joining the squad. Again we would like enough to run competitive training sessions and need around 25 players in the squad. If we have enough players we will run two teams on match days.

We have a team of 4 coaches with RFU Coaching qualifications. They will ensure all players of all abilities have a pleasurable rugby experience in a safe and controlled environment. There are will be a number of players returning again this year but it would be great to see more new arrivals, both those who are encountering rugby for the first time or those who are looking to supplement some experience gained at school or other clubs. The emphasis is on enjoyment and team spirit through rugby. Winning is an enjoyable experience, but if you achieve pleasure from the game success often comes as a by-product.

Under 12s activities/skill development

This season there are some big changes with 3 additional players to play 12 a side midi contact rugby on a half pitch. The scrum now adds a second row and contested stike for the ball.
