Latest News - 2nd July

We do need a few more players to strengthen the squad in preparation for this season as the squad add two wing forwards to play 15 a side.

There are a few roles we would like parents to help with and take some of the workload off the coaches.

Match reporters
We are looking for a parent or parents to help with writing match reports for the website and the local newspaper. Its not a time consuming task or requires knowledge of rugby. We just like to record the match results, the team sheet and who scored the tries plus the man of the match. The players do like to see their names in the paper and on the website.

Review of 2018 - 19 Season - The Under 14's

The u14s squad grew in numbers from 20 to 29 players as new players joined throughout the season. They struggled early in the season and had to wait till October to record their first win but by the Xmas break they had won 5 games, drawn 1 and lost 6.

The second half of the season performances improved as the new players benefitted from midweek training sessions. In the Yorkshire Cup they lost to Driffield in the first round and entered the Bowl competition but went out in the second round to finalists Ripon. If they can keep this squad they will progress further next season. Mid week training is essential fot this squad and we will arrange for some 1stxv players to spend time coaching and refining their basic skills.

Season 2019-20 - The under 15s

The new rules of play for the under 13s is introduced this season. The changes are mostly in the forwards with the rules allowing unlimited players competing for the ball at the ruck and maul. An additional player is introduced to make it 13 a side and a number 8 is added to the scrum. Contested strike for the ball is now allowed in the scrum. A full set of backs can now use a larger pitch increased to full size 90 x 60.

We have a team of 4 coaches with RFU Coaching qualifications. They will ensure all players of all abilities have a pleasurable rugby experience in a safe and controlled environment. There are will be a number of players returning again this year but it would be great to see more new arrivals, both those who are encountering rugby for the first time or those who are looking to supplement some experience gained at school or other clubs. The emphasis is on enjoyment and team spirit through rugby. Winning is an enjoyable experience, but if you achieve pleasure from the game success often comes as a by-product.
