Next Games 22nd Apri
home to Wath upon Dearne Yorshire 2 KO 3pm.

Rishworthians are aiming to finish their successful season on a high note with victory over Wath Upon Dearne in their final Yorkshire Two game. The South Yorkshire side is the only one to have beaten Rishworthians in the league this season apart from champions Moortown. That came in the opening league match when the Copley men travelled without nine of their first team, who were attending left wing Anthony Shoesmith’s wedding. In appalling conditions they lost 7 – 3 to a try in the 86th minute.

They wondered if they would rue that defeat, but have never looked back since, guaranteeing promotion in second place two weeks ago, and Shoesmith himself has scored 27 tries and will be hoping to take his tally even higher. For this game Rishworthians are only missing scrum half Ed Cockroft, with Jacob Ford coming in to replace him, although they are waiting for a late fitness test on skipper Fraser Swarbrooke. Fly half Josh Kelly will also be looking to increase his points tally which at the moment stands at 335 – a great achievement for Yorkshire Two.

Over the past two weeks Rishworthians have had to rely on their strength in depth to clinch promotion, but this week Richard Bullough comes into the second row and teenagers James McHugh and Greg Day have been released back to the Development team, who have a play-off final to go into the North Championship.

Old Rishworthians players were stopped in their tracks when a newcomer turned up for training. Bath and England fly half George Ford dropped in on the club as they prepared for a crucial Yorkshire Two game at Ripon. His 18-year-old brother Jacob is currently playing fullback with Rishworthians and he joined him and the rest of the squad at training.

The England international was using some free time to call on Jacob and elder brother Joe, who plays fly half with Championship club Yorkshire Carnegie. George also had a special gift for one of Rishworthians' players and presented the club's Fijian-born centre Taniela Bakoso with the shirt of Fiji fly half Josh Matavesi, with whom he swapped shirts after England's recent 58 - 15 victory at Twickenham.

"We knew George was coming along earlier in the day, but we deliberately didn't tell the players. You should have seen their faces when he turned up," said team manager Dan Ingham. "He joined in and it was a great training session. All our players were so impressed.

There was a great turnout 40 plus at training on Tuesday evening as Sale Sharks player Joe Ford ran a special training session this week for players at Old Rishworthians. Joe is the brother of England fly half George Ford and both attended Rishworth School.
His involvement was arranged through Rishworthians’ new player-coach Chris Stone, who is hoping it will be the first of a number of training sessions being run by Joe Ford.
