There are a few roles we would like parents to help with and take some of the workload off the coaches.
If there are any parents who would like to help Toby and Steve with the coaching please contact them. We will arrange courses you can attend and develop your coaching skills.
We are looking for a parent or parents to help with writing match reports for the website and the local newspaper. Its not a time consuming task or requires knowledge of rugby. We just like to record the match results, the team sheet and who scored the tries plus the man of the match. If who wish you can add a match summary. The players do like to see their names in the paper and on the website.
We require a team manager to welcome new players and ensure they become RFU registered and create a player ID card to allow them to play competitive games.
The under 8's had a good second season building on their first season. They were able to field two teams most match days but the season was badly disrupted due to the wet winter and a few clubs not running under 8s teams. They lost just 3 games up to the Christmas break then the bad weather and flood disrupted the season with very little rugby played during December and January. The squad played as many games away as possible and finished the season stronly during March and April. At the end of the season they went on tour to the North East and played in the Darlington Festival. splaying competitive rugby with new players arriving at the club throughout the year the squad has grown to a very healthy 20 players. Most weeks they fielded 3 teams the Maroons, Blacks and Whites
The squad started their first season well and only lost 4 games upto the Xmas break. In the second half of the season they continued to produce some excellent tag rugby winning most of their games. They went to the Huddersfield Festival and won their games but there were no festival awards. The Brods Festival was cancelled at short notice

This season the tackle is introduced to the game. This is a key development stage and the tackle is introduced in clear progressive stages ie kneel, squat, stand, walk, jog. An additional player is added to the team to make games 7 a side. We will need to recruit a few more players to allow the squad to run 2 teams again.
We have a team of 2 coaches with RFU Coaching qualifications and ideally we would like another parent to take on a coaching assistant role. Coaches will ensure all players of all abilities have a pleasurable rugby experience in a safe and controlled environment. There are will be a number of players returning again this year but it would be great to see more new arrivals, both those who are encountering rugby for the first time or those who are looking to supplement some experience gained at school or other clubs. The emphasis is on enjoyment and team spirit through rugby. Winning is an enjoyable experience, but if you achieve pleasure from the game success often comes as a by-product.
The under 9s play 7 a side mini contact rugby on a 60x30m pitch. This stage of development introduces the tackle and is a key development season. On match day Sundays the squad meet at 10am and train/warm up till 11am when the matches start. Some Sundays are dedicated to training/player development, these are on average one Sunday per month (see fixtures on the menu bar).
