There are a few roles we would like parents to help with and take some of the workload off the coaches.
If there are any parents who would like to help with the admonistration please contact Grahame or Mark. Its not a time consuming job but we need someone to welcome new players introduce them to the coaches and complete the membership forms. At the start of the season ensure everyone signs on and check contact details are still correct.
If there are any parents who would like to help with the coaching please contact Chris or Marc. We will arrange courses you can attend and develop your coaching skills.
We also would like a parent or parents to help with writing match reports for the website and the local newspaper.
This season the squad need to learn from last seasons experiences and work on the weak areas ready for the first games. Its a big step into junior rugby and it takes time to adjust to the wide pitches. Fitness is the key element and make the ball do the work on a full size pitch. We will arrange for our new Head Cosch Chris Stone to come down and run a few coaching sessions during the season.
The under 15's do not have to qualify for the Yorkshire cup as they are automatically entered into the first round. They will also have a second chance of knockout rugby, if they lose the first round tie they will be entered into the Plate competition.
We have an experienced team of 3 coaches with RFU Coaching qualifications. They will ensure all players of all abilities have a pleasurable rugby experience in a safe and controlled environment. There will be a number of players returning again this year but it would be great to see a few new arrivals, both those who are encountering rugby for the first time or those who are looking to supplement some experience gained at school or other clubs. The emphasis is on enjoyment and team spirit through rugby. Winning is an enjoyable experience, but if you achieve pleasure from the game success often comes as a by-product.
The Cats had a great start to the season winning all their games up December. In the 3rd round of the cup they had a tough draw away to Huddersfield which they lost 12-24. Several new players joined the squad throughout the season to boost the squad to 30 players. This gave the coaches problems having rotate players to give everyone a game. Only one games was played during January due to the flooding but it gave the coaches time to get the new players up to speed.
The second half of the season saw a the squad only lose two more games to West Park Leeds with a weakened squad. They entered the Darlington Festival and won all their games conceding just one try to win the festival.
