Under 10's Latest News - 01/06/19

There are a few roles we would like parents to help with and take some of the workload off the coaches.

Assistant coaches
If there are any parents who would like to help with the coaching please contact them. We will arrange courses you can attend and develop your coaching skills.

Match reporters
We also would like a parent or parents to help with writing match reports for the website and the local newspaper. Its not a big job, we just require the match results, Names of players in each team, the try scorers and any awards eg man of the match. If you wish you can add a match summary.

Team manager
We require a team manager to welcome new squad players and explain the procedures. Once they have completed a trial period and happy to continue playing, ensure they complete a membership form and become RFU registered and hold a player ID card to allow them to play competitive games.

2016 - 17 Season - The Under 8's

After an excellent first season of competitive rugby the squad this season will build on this foundation. The squad should be looking to run with the ball and try to evade a tagger and also look and pass and receive the the ball whilst running. The game also moves from 4 a side to 6 a side so a liitle less space on the pitch. This starts to make players look at spacial awareness.

We will be looking for new players to join and boost the squad numbers to be able to run at least 2 teams the Cougars and the Jaguars so everyone gets a game. If numbers increase as the season progresses then we will form a third team. During training sessions the squad is often split into 2 groups, the experienced players and the new player development squad. This allows the new players to learn the basic skills at their own pace and when up to speed can transfer to the experienced player squad.

So if you are new to the game just come down on a Sunday morning 10am - Noon September to April for some free taster sessions before deciding to join. We are based in Copley and please check the under 8s fixture list to see when they are training or have home games some weeks they play away games at other clubs.

Under 9s activities/skill development

The under 9s play 7 a side contact rugby on a 60 x 30m pitch. On match day Sundays the squad meet at 10am and train/warm up till 11am when the matches start. The main change this season is the introduction of the tackle and this is seen as a major change in the child's development. Some Sundays are dedicated to training/player development, these are on average one Sunday per month (see fixtures on the menu bar).
