Under 6's The Micros

The micros had training session at Copley with approx 10 players training. Numbers were down due to half term

Under 7's The Young Guns
Honours even for Young Guns & Littleborough

Rishworthians under 7s had enough players to field 2 teams the Maroons and Blacks and hosted Littleborough who also turned up with 2 teams allowing the coaches to set up a round robin of games.

The maroons played Littleborough A first which produced an even contest finishing a 11-11 draw . in their second game against Littleborough B they faied better winning another close game 8-6.

The blacks played Littleborough B first and narrowly lost 7-8. Tries traded evenly throughout the game but the blacks just ran out of time to level the scores. Against Littleborough A they produced an exciting 10-10 draw.

As the scores showed these were evenly matched squads and the Rishworthians young guns are improving with each game.

The maroons try scores were Charlie Anderson, Alfie Cartwright, Elsie Fenton, Archie Garnett and for the blacks Ben Ingham, Ethan Murphy Jasper Haigh and Joe Lister

Under 8's The Bulls and Bears
Clean sweep for Bulls and Bears

On a damp and biting morning the U8's turned out in strength to face two travelling Lancashire teams. Due to strong numbers the team split into the black's and the hoops.

Rishworthians Bulls 12 - 10 Littleborough
The bulls faced Littleborough in their first game, who were a big and fast unit and were formidable opponents. The game ebbed and flowed but the blacks dug in, with every player contributing well, to edge a tight game by winning 12 tries to 10. Freddie scored two early tries after some excellent support play. Ben continued to impress after his arrival at the club and went over a number of times with great runs, as did Lewi. Both Alfie and Harry scored too and defended excellently, pulling tags for fun.

Rishworthians Bulls 13 - 8 Ashton u Lyne
In their second game, against a big Ashton front pack, the blacks faired just as well, winning 13-8. After facing some early scares and Ashton tries, with some direct running from the Ashton prop, the blacks rallied with great team work again and some more great tries from snake hips Lewi and his ghosting runs. Again Alfie, Harry and Freddie went over and contributed well. Ben again scored a number.

Rishworthians Bears 12 - 8 Ashton u Lyne
The bears played fantastic too and also won both of their games. They beat Ashton 12 tries to 8 in their first game The team held their own early on as they went down to 4, after Joe took an early knock. He came back on bravely, and contributed fantastically. Reuben played a blinder scoring 5 tries with some strong running. He was supported well by Jean and Claudia who also went over for a few each. Jean scored a cracker in the corner after a great weaving run. There was some great defence and tagging by the fearless hoops who were un-fazed by the big lads of Ashton running straight down the middle.

Rishworthians Bears 12 - 11 Littleborough
In their second game against Littleborough - perhaps the tougher team of the two - the bears played fantastically to win 12 tries to 11. It was a tense finish, the hoops defending for their lives prior to the final whistle to deny Littleborough the draw. William had a dream start to the game scoring a great hat trick in the first five minutes with some jinking runs and a foot chase to the corner. He scored another late on. Claudia also scored some crackers (at least 4) destroying the Lancastrians with her pace. Again Reuben's strong runs paid dividends as he contributed again to the scoreline, as did Jean. Again Joe worked hard. He scored a fantastic back row forwards try - storming through the middle - in the friendly game that followed - showing his strong promise.

The lads and lass - on a freezing cold morning - showed great attitude (little moaning, whinging or sulking) and all got stuck in to win 4 out of 4. They showed some great improvement and the turn out shows great promise for the future.

Bulls - Harry Smurthwaite, Alfie Dixon, Lewi Whiteoak, Ben Black and Freddie Sharp.
Bears - William Thorp, Claudia Grogan, Joe Lister, Jean Peron and Reuben Misselbrook.

Under 9's The Cougars and Jaguars
Cougars good form continiues

Rishworthians u9s hosted a 3 way mini tournament with Littleborough and Ashton under Lyne and maintained their good form this season with wins against both teams.

Further tries came from a Tobias Stansfield brace, Rocco Hirst and William Hamilton for a 6-0 lead at half time. Cooke added another brace to take his total to 4 in the game. Littleborough never gave up and enjoyed a good spell scoring 2 tries but the Cougars made sure the game was in the bag with tries from Thomas Sheehan and Oscar Marsden.

Rishworthian Jaguars 4 - 3 Ashton u Lyne
Rishworthians made sure the whole squad had at one full game by fielding their Jaguars team and found the opposition a much tougher prospect. Ashton opened the scoring with two well worked tries before the Jaguars got their game together to draw level with tries from Logan Marshall and Marsden. Ashton went ahead to lead 2-3 but the Jaguars finished strongly to grab two late tries from Stansfield and Sheehan.

Under 12's The Lions and Tigers
Lions tamed by Rochdale

The u12s hosted Rochdale who travelled with a strong squad and plenty of subs. Injuries and illness meant that the Rishies played without substitutes

Rishworthians Lions 2 - 7 Rochdale
In the first two quarters, the Rochdale players converted their chances better to score five tries despite some stout defence from the Lions.

In the third quarter the Rishworthians began to get into the game with the forwards making good progress, particularly Alex Lakidis and Charlie Horsfield but Rochdale still managed to have more possession and ran in two more tries. Finally, in the fourth quarter the Lions began to make headway with the switch of Ollie Morris to inside centre. with tries for winger Dan Dean and forward Arthur Davies without Rochdale adding to their total.

Tries - Dan Dean and Arthur Davies
